NHL Re-Evaluates Concussion Prevention
Sidney Crosby's concussion has re-ignited the debate at the Board of Governors meeting at All-Star Weekend about whether the NHL is doing enough to prevent hits to the head.
The NHL did adopt a new rule this season, Rule 48, which bans blindside hits to the head.
"The blindside hit rule has made a difference in the way the game has been played," Blues president John Davidson said after the board meeting.
"There's lots of hitting, only it's more intelligent. We're not trying to catch a guy with his head down, sideways, and knock a guy to the moon."
It's clear from the discussion Saturday that owners want their general managers to further discuss the issue and whether the league should take the next step.
"And so they should discuss it," Davidson said.

Lemaire led the Devils to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 1994-95.
Gretzky Remains Legendary Figure At 50
Wayne Gretzky is gone from the NHL, but as he turns 50, he's certainly not forgotten.
Gretzky hasn't skated on an NHL rink since April 18, 1999, when he scored his 2,857th and final point during the last game of his career, New York's 2-1 overtime loss to Pittsburgh.
"I think so, and I don't think that's ever going to change," Charlie Huddy, Gretzky's teammate in Edmonton and Los Angeles, told NHL.com when asked if Gretzky remains the biggest name in hockey. "I don't think it's fair to compare anybody to Wayne. There's only one of him and we all know what he's done for the game of hockey.
"As soon as you say his name, even though he's been out of it a while, people know instantly who you're talking about and all his accomplishments. For me, I don't see anybody else coming along who is going to be any better than that."
